Provide option to remove Ebook Central "Download Book" button
Provide option to remove the "Download Book" button from Ebook Central UI. Clicking this button results in PQ wanting access to my Adobe Digital Editions account, which does not live on my laptop computer. I’m fairly certain Digital Editions does not live on very many computers anymore. It would be very nice if this particular download option could become either our option for display, removed, disabled, or at least moved way down to the very bottom of the page. My preference would be to have the ability to either enable/disable from the admin area. The button also should communicate that this is not really a “download” per se, but rather a channel to an outdated and seldom used ebook viewer. Maybe the button could say “Read via Digital Editions” or whatever. Either way, “Download Book” looks a lot like “download PDF,” which is misleading and confusing for the patron. Yes, the book will end up in PDF format, but the patron has to use DE, which simply preserves DRM. Either way, it makes things more difficult and confusing. Ebook Central’s “Read Online” button (would be nice if it said “read book” after the download button disappears) leads the patron to what I consider one of the best ebook viewers on the market.

We advise our patrons to disregard the Download Ebook button as it causes more issues than it solves. Adobe Digital Editions, frankly, has never worked for us. Please consider this!
