Patrons can share bookshelves across their institution
Make the Bookshelf function shareable across institutions
The Bookshelf function is a brilliant function of Ebook Central. I work in a support role for Jisc, and we use Ebook Central to host our collection of e-books for FE. I created several Bookshelves to divide our collection into subject and qualification areas, but was disappointed to learn that I would not be able to share these with different organisations, I could only share them within Jisc. This is disappointing because it would be a fantastic support mechanism for Jisc's librarian members in the UK. Our members often don't have the time to create these Bookshelves themselves, and therefore this great tool is not being fully utilised. I have received feedback from many members that they would love us to be able to share our Bookshelves. The benefits would be an invaluable support tool for members, and this would enable more learners to access these titles because they become easily discoverable
Thank you all for your feedback on this enhancement request! We will keep this in mind for future consideration.

HI, this sounds like great idea. Anything that saves the FE community a bit of time; but also highlights the great materials available in an easy to use and searchable format

As an FE institution we would love it if JISC could share their Ebook Central bookshelves with us. We don't tend to have time to create these ourselves.

I endorse this suggestion wholeheartedly! Working as a Jisc subject specialist, I provide advice to college libraries on developing their digital practice. For many colleges, making good use of the Jisc e-books for FE collection via Ebook Central can be the foundation step towards being effective providers of quality online content in other forms (including other Proquest content!). Without some simple support tools like Bookshelves, college librarians face a tough challenge to engage busy teachers and reluctant student readers. Having tools that all college libraries can share and rally around also has tremendous potential to build common know-how and development capacity across the sector. That in turn is going to be vital for our member colleges to move forward with digital, creating students who are digitally confident, literate and able to thrive in and beyond college, whether in higher education or the workplace.

This is an excellent idea, as ebook central is a beacon of best practice already. By enabling the bookshelf function to be shareable across institutions would ensure that e-books collections are far easier for students to access, which would increase user interaction with key core texts.

This would be a really beneficial tool that can be utilised by ALL e-books for FE subscribers

I agree - with the importance of sharing and cross collaboration in the education sector - having a way to share best practice and recommendations is really important. This would really help with embedding into VLEs but also sharing on social media and teaching forums.
